Qualifications and Requirements

We are very selective in our choice of writers and editors. You should view the following as minimum qualifications. If you are a part-time (or full-time), professional freelance writer with graduate-level writing experience, and can

  • provide samples consistent with the quality of work we do (see Portfolio for examples);
  • write American or UK English with the proficiency of a native speaker;
  • write and edit in APA, MLA, Vancouver, or Turabian style;
  • follow directions closely;
  • meet deadlines with religious zeal;
  • use MSWord proficiently (or save files in MSWord format);
  • access the Internet and have a reliable e-mail account and telephone number; and
  • do research online and access databases such as ProQuest as well as Web resources,

How to Apply

Please send five writing samples and a resume to us at jobs@accreditedwriters.com. Each sample must

  • be written at the graduate level (i.e., article, book, scientific grant proposal, or dissertation/thesis)
  • consist of three to five pages (excerpts from longer works are fine)
  • contain at least five references in one of the following styles: APA, MLA, Vancouver, or Turabian
  • contain a reference list to the cited sources in one of the following styles: APA, MLA, Vancouver, or Turabian.

Clips from newspapers or magazines, advertising brochures, or fiction excerpts are not acceptable. Please do not waste your time if you are unable to provide appropriate samples.

If you meet our minimum qualifications, and provide the samples and resume as described above, we will ask you to edit and format a short (three- to five-page) passage using APA style. If we like what we see, we can begin working with you.

Compensation

We usually compensate for writing on a per-page basis (double-spaced, letter-sized, 1-inch margins). The rate depends on the level of difficulty, amount of work involved, and subject matter. We usually compensate for editing projects on a flat-fee basis. We pay promptly upon completion of the assignment. All payments are via PayPal in U.S. currency.

Independent Contractor Status

People who complete work for us in exchange for compensation are independent contractors, not employees. We neither tell you how to do the work nor compensate you for expenses incurred in the course of doing work for us. If you are a U.S. citizen or resident, you will be required to provide a signed copy of an IRS W-9 before beginning your first project.
